Schalker McKennie suffered a racially derogatory remark
Juventus Condemns Racist Abuse Against Weston McKennie
Juventus Football Club has strongly condemned racist abuse directed at their player, Weston McKennie, during their match against Parma Calcio. The incident occurred at the end of the game, with the racist slurs coming from the Parma supporters' section.
The club confirmed in a statement released the day after the match that there were "racially discriminatory remarks" from the visiting supporters. McKennie, who was initially loaned to Juventus for the 2020/2021 season and later signed permanently, was racially abused during a training session with teammates who had not participated in the game against Parma.
The racist slurs were allegedly made by some fans in the away section during the match. McKennie was substituted into the game in the 89th minute. The training session where the abuse occurred was with teammates who had not participated in the game.
Weston McKennie, a former Schalke 04 player, played for Schalke's U19 and professional teams from 2016 to 2020. Despite a 2-0 victory, Juventus expressed their disappointment and disapproval of the incident, vowing to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities to identify those responsible.
The club reiterated their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion and to eradicating racism from football. They urged fans to report any such incidents and to treat all players with the respect they deserve.
This is not the first time Juventus has had to deal with racist abuse. In 2019, their player, Moise Kean, was subjected to monkey chants from Cagliari fans during a match. The club has consistently taken a strong stance against racism, emphasising the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all players and fans.
